About HKSESSA

The Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme Scholars Association (HKSESSA) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation with a vision to serve as a platform where Hong Kong Scholars can bond with each other (Structuring), share knowledge with our next generation (Empowering) and develop their influence in different sectors of interest (Stretching).

HKSESSA originated from the first-ever official Hong Kong SAR scholarship scheme, and is aimed at incubating a top cadre of “Glocal” leaders – leaders dedicated to our Hong Kong society with both local knowledge and global vision.

Our mission

The Structuring, Empowering and Stretching (SES) principle forms the basis of our Association. There are a total of five branches:

  1. Networking activities
  2. Mentorship programme
  3. Policy research
  4. Career exposure series
  5. Overseas outreaching opportunities

Our history

HKSESSA was initiated by Lawrence Ho Wing YU, a recipient of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES), in October 2017 as a way to support Hong Kong Scholars in their pursuit of growth and development in Hong Kong and beyond. Lawrence’s proposal was met with great enthusiasm from the Hong Kong Government and Scholars alike, launching a series of activities to found the Association.

An official Preparatory Committee was set up in May 2018 to begin establishment of the Association. Led by Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson Lawrence Ho Wing YU and Gavin Ka Ming POON, a total of 22 passionate Hong Kong Scholars gathered to draft the HKSESSA Constitution, which serves as a foundation for the Association’s future development.

In May 2019, an Election Sub-Committee led by Chairperson Felix Ho Yeung CHIN was formed, responsible for conducting HKSESSA’s first presidential election. Lawrence Ho Wing YU and Yvette Yuk Tin LEUNG were elected as President and Vice-President respectively in the first Annual General Meeting held in August 2019. HKSESSA is currently in its first session.

HKSESSA is currently accepting full membership applications from recipients of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme.
